Occupying a permanent place on the BoozeHound bar menu for at least a year, the Crimson Verde is owner Tina Barnard’s layered take on a watermelon margarita.
“You get a little bit of sweet, a little bit of spice, and it’s so refreshing,” says Tina.
Her recipe combines fresh watermelon, jalapeño-infused agave that she makes herself, tequila, and lime, plus a rim accented with chamoy and Tajin.
“Chamoy is a fruity hot sauce, and the Tajin adds a chili lime flavor,” Tina says. “It’s a good balance: not overly sweet, not super spicy — it just works.”
Flavorful watermelon is a key component to the cocktail. Look for one with a big yellow field spot and a hollow sound for the sweetest taste, advises Tina.
