The Fuquay-Varina Arts Center (FVAC) celebrated its 5-year anniversary this year. Director Maureen Daly reflects on the past five years as “busy and fun, with lots of activity and growth.” The building that once housed a Belk store has been transformed into a modern arts center with a 290-seat theater, art gallery, and classrooms for dancing, painting, and more.
At its core, FVAC’s success is built on listening. From the design phase to the present day, the Arts Center has prioritized hearing the needs of artists, instructors, and community members. This approach has created a loyal following, but Daly encourages even more people to join the “Fuquay-Varina art family.” Her clear goal for the center is to become a hub for cultural events and activities in the community.
The numbers tell the story: Last year, FVAC presented more than 700 learning opportunities through art classes catering to every age and interest. A diverse team of over 30 skilled instructors guided students in various creative pursuits.
Last year, there were only six weekends without a performance or rental at the theater. The town booked 43 performances during that time, demonstrating the center’s busy schedule. The Fuquay-Varina Arts Center takes a collaborative approach to booking theatrical performances. It sets aside early slots for in-house programs, such as the chorale and community theater, while also attending markets and showcases to discover new talent. The center balances familiar acts with innovative opportunities, maintaining working relationships with theatrical companies and incorporating community suggestions to create a dynamic schedule that engages audiences of all ages.
According to Daly, “We’re all creative inside. Everyone wants to express themselves.” The Arts Center provides a safe space for people to explore and share their creativity with others.
Fall classes are forming, and the theater season runs from September to May. To explore your creative side at the Fuquay-Varina Arts Center, visit FVArts.org.
