Interested in learning more about the dedicated men and women who keep Fuquay-Varina safe? The Police and Fire Departments are once again offering Citizen Academies in 2026, a fantastic opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of how each department operates.
Both academies combine hands-on activities and informative lectures to provide valuable insight into the world of public safety. The Fire Citizen Academy is a 7-week course covering topics from department history and fire prevention to rescue techniques and CPR/AED use. The Police Citizen Academy is an 11-week program delving into police mission and structure, community policing, criminal investigations, use of force, and even a K-9 presentation. Both conclude with a celebratory graduation ceremony.

Looking to spark an interest in public safety for a younger generation? The annual Junior Police Academy, held each July for ages 10-14, offers a five-day immersive experience. With limited space for 20 participants (priority given to residents), youth will explore traffic safety, meet K-9 units, solve mock crime scenes, and develop crucial team-building skills. It’s a fantastic introduction to a potential future in law enforcement. Look for registration this spring.
