Fuquay-Varina is committed to providing exceptional parks, greenways, and recreational opportunities for all residents. With 17 parks totaling over 300 acres and two community centers, we’re constantly working to enhance these valuable resources. Here’s an update on exciting projects underway and planned for the future.
Expanding Our Park System
Fuquay-Varina is excited to announce progress on expanding our park offerings.
· New Park Near Willow Spring Elementary: The Town Board has approved plans for a 19.3-acre park on Kennebec Road, adjacent to Willow Spring Elementary School. This land, leased from Wake County for 40 years (with a potential 20-year extension), was previously a softball field and will be transformed into a multi-use park. Master planning and design will begin this fiscal year, with construction slated for FY 2028. Expect athletic fields, parking, restrooms, and passive recreational areas. The Joint Use Agreement for the Willow Springs Elementary School property next door includes public access to a playfield, playground, picnic shelter, basketball court, and walking track.
Connecting Our Community with Greenways
Trails and greenways are important to Fuquay-Varina residents — you told us so in a recent Community Survey — and we’re delivering.
· Alston Ridge Greenway: Construction is currently underway on the Alston Ridge Greenway. This paved path, about half a mile long, will connect Alston Ridge Park in Fuquay-Varina to Bass Lake Park in Holly Springs, making it easier to walk or bike between our two towns. The trail will be 10 feet wide and include a boardwalk section, proper grading, drainage, signs, and safety features. The project has received $1,279,200 in grant funding!

Enhancing Existing Spaces
The Town of Fuquay-Varina is also focused on improving existing facilities.
· South Park Community Center: We’re taking a close look at the South Park Community Center to make sure it continues to meet the needs of our community. HH Architecture has been contracted to conduct a thorough evaluation of the existing building and develop alternative floor plans to improve overall functionality and user experience. HH Architecture is responsible for the design of Hilltop Needmore Town Park Community Center.
The Fuquay-Varina Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is dedicated to creating spaces where residents can play, learn, connect, and engage. Stay tuned for more updates on these and future projects! You can find more information about all our parks, greenways, and recreational programs at www.FVParks.org.
